Concrete Replacement
On the One and Only Hotel project in Cape Town, Decolite lightweight profiles were designed to replace concrete elements intended for the external detailing. The Sun International flagship in the V and A Waterfront, Cape Town is a well-known landmark and tourist destination. The aesthetics of the elevations were enhanced by making use of Decolite to simulate the non-structural requirements of the concrete elements.
External elements replaced concrete
The external detailing required a large concrete overhang which ran the length of the elevation. Originally designed in concrete, this element would have created an incredible point load on the supporting columns and would have been time-consuming to cast. However, the lightweight Decolite elements, which are manufactured of size off-site, are easy and light to install which making the installation far less time-consuming and alleviating pressure on the main contractor's programme.

The 3m pieces were installed with an undercoat, ready for decoration by others, in this case, WBHO.

External Fins
Exterior Detailing - Vertical Fins
The Decolite vertical fins to the Virgin Active in Menlyn Maine Precinct Pretoria, where a perfect application of external detailing. The massive 10m elements, in a simulated concrete finish, where chamfered in 2 directions in accordance with the architect’s requirements. Due to the fact that there are no limitations with regards to panel sizes, we are able to create the illusion that the elements are fabricated from large pieces of concrete. With Decolite, it is easy to imitate chamfered edges and Ferrel holes, as you would find in standard concrete external detailing.
External Fins Easy to Install
The Decolite external fins were fixed to a lightweight steel structure by means of a chemical and mechanical fixing system. Due to the ease of installation, we are able to minimise our time on-site thus enabling the whole programme to be accelerated.
Decolite is the perfect material for an external application due to its extremely hard external casing, making it the architects product of choice when considering unusual or large external elements.

ENTRANCE CANOPY
Decolite wire cut elements were the perfect material as a concrete replacement for this entrance canopy. The original design was for the canopy to be cast in concrete, however, the weight and structural requirements made concrete prohibitive as a material.
Replacing Concrete
The Decolite lightweight canopy was manufactured in the factory and transported to the site for installation. Due to the flexibility in design, the conduiting for lighting was accommodated in the manufacturing process. Replacing the concrete with the Decolite made installation simple and quick while reducing the weight of the element from 12 tons to 300kg.
Replacing concrete is Cost-Effective
By specifying Decolite Lightweight canopies to replace concrete, assists in reducing costs and time on site

CURVED DECOLITE FACADE
Lightweight elements, formed to completely encapsulate the structural steel supports and create a curved facade. The Decolite cladding tied in with the concrete slabs above and below to facilitate the effect that the concrete appears to be wrapping the building.
Sasol Offices Germiston, Concrete replacement in Decolite
The Decolite panels were formed in such a way as to imitate concrete panels, with chamfers on each side.
Concrete replacement in Decolite allows for the curved panels, at any radius, to complete the wrapped effect.
SIMULATED CONCRETE COLUMNS

EXTERNAL DETAILING
External Detailing with Decolite Profiles
The One and Only Hotel project in the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town, made extensive use of Decolite for the external detailing. The Sun International flagship in the V and A Waterfront, Cape Town is a well-known landmark and tourist destination and as such had to reflect its reputation in the architecture.
Decolite lightweight profiles were designed to replace concrete elements intended for the external detailing. The elevations were enhanced by making use of Decolite custom made profiles to simulate the non-structural requirements of the concrete elements for such elements as the window header boxes and large window sills.
Flexibility in Design with Decolite
Decolite is a lightweight, hard-wearing material, which can be formed, through wire cutting, to any 3-dimensional profile offering complete ability to conceive new decorative creations without limitations. The seamless elements on the external facade were coated to simulate concrete visually.
External detailing to facades
The external detailing on the project required complete freedom in design, where panel sizes and limited radii would not infringe on the overall aesthetics.
FINS IN SIMULATED CONCRETE
The residential area of Llandudno, Cape Town, offers breath-taking views of the sea and mountain. For this project, the client required simulated concrete fins in order create some form of barrier between the properties set in to the mountain side. Decolite was the perfect material when considering concrete replacement elements. Due to the flexibility in design, Decolite may be cut to any size or shape, offering freedom of design.
Concrete Finish
The Decolite profiles, once cut are coated with a hard wearing concrete like finish, making it the perfect lightweight alternative to concrete.
Custom Made
Profiles are custom made and each fixing detail is designed with the customers requirements in mind. In this case the Fins were adjustable and could be set open or be closed. the mechanism includes a stainless steel plate and vertical rods for additional stability.

BUS SHELTERS IN SIMULATED CONCRETE
Waterfall City in Midrand forms part of the new mixed-use hub and includes a mall, hotel and hospital. In order to facilitate travel within the node, a bus route was introduced which required 42 bus stops around the development. The trendy bus shelters, were minimalist in design, while providing shelter. Decolite was used in conjunction with the concrete vertical column, in order to create a lightweight floating element forming the covered roof of the shelter.
